 When: Golf is a year-round activity in Sonoma County. In January, February, and March most of the rainfall occurs.
Where: The centerpiece golf course in the Russian River area is the Northwood Golf Club. Designed in 1928 by Alister MacKenzie, of Augusta National and Cypress Point fame, along with Robert Hunter, this par 36 nine-hole course was created for the exclusive Bohemian Club and is incredibly scenic, studded with majestic redwood trees and lined by the lovely Russian River.
Now open to the public, this golf course remains one of the most stunningly beautiful and challenging golf courses anywhere, for amazingly inexpensive green fees. With a restaurant with bar, seasonal outdoor patio dining, a pro shop, a barber shop, and an Internet/coffee café, Northwood Golf Club is, for many golfers, enough reason alone to visit the Russian River area.
